Super mario sunshine game boy colour12/29/2023 Oh well, I'll just assume that when talking about a videogame this innocent, at least nobody will get killed over it. Got to love that idea that everything needs to be political, and politically correct, or its speaker shamed and silenced. 'arguably.', and people start to argue that every opinion different from 'theirs' or the 'democratic' average is inarguable. If it has got you craving some fun in the sun though, Nintendo re-released Super Mario Sunshine on the Switch as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection in 2020, the only catch is it was a limited-time release, so it's no longer purchasable on the eShop and physical copies may no longer be readily available. The only downside to all of this is that there's no actual game here. Back then, a perfectly mirrored port from console to handheld would have been unlikely, so it makes sense. Mario Sunshine except it's one of those weird GBA ports that's kinda like the game but isn't /gNtjaSQvFw- hut April 26, 2022Īccording to the artist, this "GBA port" would have been "kinda like the game" on GameCube, but not entirely. If you have, wonder no more - as a pixel artist known as 'huttaburger' on Twitter has recreated the game's main hub isle, Delfino Plaza - reimagining what it would have possibly looked like on Nintendo's 32-bit handheld system. Hosted by 44 Bytes.Super Mario Sunshine is arguably one of the best 3D Mario games ever released, but have you ever wondered what it might look like if it was ported across to the Game Boy Advance around the same time as its original GameCube release in 2002? © 2023 Hookshot Media, partner of ReedPop. The game has definitely left fond memories with a number of our readers, as well as our very own Andrew Karklins who wrote warmly of his Sunshine memories recently. Exploring the island of Delfino at a leisurely pace is a delight and the abstract secret stages where Mario is stripped of his FLUDD hovering abilities are pure platforming joy. That's not to say that Sunshine isn't a whole heap of fun. The in-game camera struggles at times, the game story and voice-over work isn't the best and on the whole the game arguably doesn't do anything to shake up the 3D platformer genre in the sense that Mario 64 did. While Super Mario Sunshine was received positively by critics of its day, it wasn't without some annoying quirks. Yoshi even shows up in the game for Mario to ride on. Using different nozzles Mario can even use FLUDD as a jetpack which helps with tricky platforming sections and to reach higher ground. Thankfully Mario is joined by a robotic backpack named FLUDD (Flash Liquidizing Ultra Dousing Device) so he can clean up the slimy mess and reach new areas. Of course the relaxation doesn't last long as a Mario imposter steals the coveted Shine Sprites and covers the island in toxic slime. The game starts with Mario packing his blue dungarees to jet off to the sun-kissed tropical Isle Delfino for a well-earned vacation with Princess Peach and some Toads. Gamers eagerly waited to see what Shigeru Miyamoto had cooked up for this long awaited follow-up in the Mario series. Super Mario Sunshine arrived the following year in 2002, six years after Super Mario 64 showed the world how 3D platformers should be done. The tables were turned so that Mario's link to the launch was through new series Luigi's Mansion, putting the green half of the Mario Bros. It was a bold move from Nintendo to launch the GameCube in 2001 without a Mario game. In this series of articles we'll write about one or more Mario game per day, each representing a different year as part of our Super Mario 30th Anniversary celebrations.
